Poster Size: 17" x 22" An American scientist, botanist educator and inventor. Born 1860. Died 1943. George Washington Carver developed his crop rotation method which revolutionised agriculture in the southern states of America, greatly boosting the economy of the area at a time when many farmers werefacing great hardship following years of civil war . He educated farmers to alternate the soil-depleting cotton crops with soil-enriching crops such as peanuts, soya beans, sweet potatoes and pecans and thus changing th e South from being a one-crop land of cotton, to being multi-crop farmlands, with farmers having hundreds of profitable uses for their new crops. George Washington Carver did not patent or profit from most of his products. He freely gave his discoveries to mankind. Most important was the fact that he "God gave them to me" he would say about his ideas, "How can I sell them to someone else?" In 1940, Carver donated his life savings to the establishment of the Carver Research Foundation at Tuskegee, for continuing research in agriculture. He is recognized as one of the greatest scientists of the 20th century and his influence is still being felt today. More interesting facts, fun ideas and reproducibles can be found on the reverse of this popular poster. A great accompaniment to our other Scientist and Inventors posters.
